West Wilts Rail Users Group - Objectives
To improve the level of rail facilities and services in West Wiltshire and rail services that have an impact on West Wiltshire.
To liaise with the rail industry To raise public awareness of the rail network and to stimulate it's greater use. To be represented at appropriate meetings of outside organisations. To provide a forum for rail passengers Campaign news .... We regularly advise both MPs in our area on Railway matters: * South West Wiltshire Constituency MP: Dr Andrew Murrison (covers Trowbridge, Westbury and Warminster) * Chippenham Constituency MP : Duncan Hames (covers Avoncliff, Bradford-on-Avon and Melksham) Both local MPs are keen supporters and users of our local rail services and have given talks at our meetings. Current Concerns Include The very low number of trains, and the dreadful timing, on the 'Trans-Wilts' service. That includes concern at the appalling service provided to Melksham - the second largest town in West Wiltshire, and the lack of realistic direct commuting and daytime services from any of the towns to Chippenham and Swindon, which is by far the largest town and employment centre in Wiltshire. Services at Dilton Marsh which are sparse, unbalanced, and do not provide through journeys that will attract passengers in the growing area Options available to you
